I was able to attend the Employee Service Day celebration this afternoon in Levin Hall. Congrats to all who were honored, and job well done to the folks who pulled together the photos, videos, scripts and all the technical machinations to host the show. Dr. Stobo’s surprise appearance was a nice touch (he awarded Dr. Callender his 15-year pin; Callender’s years at MD Anderson counted in his service.).
I had a chance to meet the 40-year honoree, Lawrence Callis, a few weeks ago. He’s a great guy who works the night shift in sterile processing, rides his bike to work each day from 61st St., and according to legend has not missed a day of work in his 40 years. We talked for while about his great family, about life in Galveston, about the Christmas it snowed, about his admiration for his co-workers and the satisfaction he gets from doing his job well. Lawrence, more power to you. I’m looking forward to your 45th year.
If you missed it, the program and videos should be available on campus TV and online in next day or two. Watch iUTMB for details…
