Birds of a Feather

In case you missed it, UTMB Featherfest is taking place next week, and leading up to it, there’s been a photo contest running each week in the Galveston County Daily News. A longtime UTMB employee and medical illustrator in Surgery, Steve Schuenke, has been raking in the awards, for first place the first week with a stunning photo of an egret or heron in flight, and third place two weeks later.

Steve’s another example of a talented UTMB person with some great outside-of-work interests. If you do something others might find interesting, I’d love to hear about it. If you want to know more about FeatherFest, here’s some info:        

Sixth Annual Galveston FeatherFest April 3 – 6, 2008

Galveston Island, one of the top locations for birding in the nation, hosts the sixth annual FeatherFest April 3 – 6, 2008. The outdoor nature festival showcases art, history and more than 200 species of birds during the height of spring migration. Registrants can enjoy bay and harbor excursions, bus and kayak field trips, workshops and photography expeditions, all led by a team of internationally recognized nature experts. Activities are for both novice and experienced nature lovers and offer fun, unique ways to learn about and explore Galveston’s coastal areas.
