Two nights ago, I walked in my house to find a cornucopia of tablets, bottles and lozenges spread out on my kitchen counter. My wife was in the early stages of a cold, and by golly, she wasn’t going to go down without a fight. I’m old school, of the belief that one’s choice when it comes to fighting colds are seven days or one week of misery. She had gone online, and collected information about vitamin c, zinc, herbs and the other items that were now littering my counter. She had found a resource that cited studies and had good data on what might work best and what she should try.
The Faculty Group Practice, School of Medicine, and Hospitals & Clinics have come together to beef up and update utmbhealthcare.org; they’re off to a good start. I may have been set back half a day’s pay in herbal supplements, but I’m glad to report my wife made a “miraculous” two-day recovery. It’ll be hurricane season again before I hear the end of it. Anybody seen my Kleenex?
Don’t forget UTMB is still offering free flu shots to its employees, in the GCRC and Employee Health Clinic. I’ll post details later for those who need them…
