We had it pretty easy down here on the sandbar, but this past week was rough for many employees working at UTMB sites around the state slammed by winter weather. If you were one of them, UTMB’s VP for Human Resources sent out a message advising timekeepers how to handle time away from the office, classroom, lab or clinic. In a nutshell, staff assigned to work at sites that were closed due to the weather will receive Emergency Leave for their assigned shifts. Employees assigned to sites that did not close but who could not get to work due to weather conditions should use their own personal accruals, but the leave will not be considered unscheduled. Employees at Austin Women’s Hospital who were required to stay overnight will be paid for actual hours worked (including overtime if applicable) and compensatory time up to remainder of 24 hour period.
Our weather guys are forecasting more cold weather ahead, with another frigid blast possible near the end of the month and lower-than-normal temperatures across the south for next month. Keep your scarves and gloves handy, and your fingers crossed.
