Join us for the Galveston Women’s Conference—March 31st

UTMB Health is again co-sponsoring with the Galveston Chamber of Commerce “Celebrating Women: Mind, Body, Spirit,” the 2011 version of the annual Galveston women’s conference. Our featured keynote speaker is Elizabeth Gilbert, author of the New York Times bestseller Eat, Pray, Love. Also taking the podium will be UTMB Health physicians, Dr. Marc Shabot and Dr. Colleen Silva, Medical Director of the Breast Health and Imaging Center. In addition, participants will learn about body language from expert Jan Hargrave, human trafficking from regional authority Constance Rossiter and estate planning from attorneys Wendy Farner and Diane Perrin. Also speaking will be Laura Contreras-Rowe on inspiring Latina women and Pamela Rowe Smith, CEO of The Woman’s Foundation, on what the power of a single woman can accomplish.

Blood Drive—March 10

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

The blood mobile will be in the Victory Lakes front parking lot (2440 Gulf Freeway South) from 10am to 4pm. Donors are required to have a photo I.D. to donate blood. Successful donors will receive T-shirts. Blood collected by UTMB gives the gift of life to patients at UTMB. Each unit of blood collected can save up to three lives.

To be a donor at UTMB, you must weigh 110 pounds or more and be at least 17 years old. Blood donors should eat before donating and inform the blood bank staff if they are taking medications. The annual peer-to-peer survey identifies specialists who are considered by fellow physicians to be the most skilled in their fields and most qualified for reviewing and treating complex medical conditions.
