The Center for Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Accreditation

The Center for Obesity and Metabolic Surgery has been granted “Full Approval” as a Level 1A Accredited Bariatric Center by the American College of Surgeons Bariatric Surgery Center Network.
Recognizing that high-quality surgical care occurs in a variety of surgical contexts, the ACS BSCN Accreditation Program offers seven accreditation levels for inpatient hospitals and outpatient facilities, including newly established bariatric surgery programs. Five accreditation status levels are offered for inpatient hospitals: Level 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, and 2-New. Two accreditation levels are offered for outpatient facilities.
The UTMB Center for Obesity and Metabolic Surgery is a Level 1A designated center, one of only three currently in Texas.

Victory Lakes introduces new Lab Manager

Michelle Hanna has joined the UTMB Victory Lakes Specialty Center as the Lab Manager. In this role, Michelle will provide leadership, direction and guidance over Phlebotomy, Surgical Pathology, Point of Care, and the Main Lab at Victory Lakes. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from UTMB, School of Allied Health. Michelle’s professional experience includes Supervision of multiple Laboratory Departments and she has also coordinated Point of Care Labs. She has been extensively involved in Quality Controls, CAP surveys and inspections and has received advanced training on numerous Laboratory instruments. Michelle’s commitment to education has been noted in the classes she has taught on Leadership, Compliance, and Quality Assurance. Her hard work has paid off as she has received several honors and awards in her scholastic and professional career, including Employee of the Year at one of the largest Healthcare companies in the United States. Please join me in welcoming Michelle to the Victory Lakes Specialty Care Center and to our talented team of healthcare professionals at UTMB.
