Victory Lakes physician named to distinguished professorship

J.BauerCongratulations are in order for one of our Victory Lakes physicians, Dr. John D. Bauer. Bauer, an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery, was recently named as the holder of the Stephen R. Lewis, MD, Professorship in Plastic Surgery. The Truman G. Blocker, Jr. – Stephen R. Lewis Society provided funds in 1984 to establish this distinguished professorship in honor of Dr. Lewis, who held a number of leadership roles during his tenure at UTMB, including Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Bauer is a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, head, breast and body. His research focuses on gene and cytokine induction of collagen synthesis, and scarless fetal wound healing.

Dr. Bauer is a member of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons. Nationally, he holds memberships in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, and Association of Academic Surgery. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, in 1993. He completed his general surgery residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and his plastic surgery residency at UTMB, where he was a research fellow in the Wound Healing Laboratory. Dr. Bauer also completed a fellowship in aesthetic/cosmetic surgery with Baker, Stuzin and Baker in Miami, Florida. He joined the UTMB faculty in 2003. Read more… See his profile

Key member welcomed to radiology team

c.johnsonWe’d like to introduce Cheryl A. Johnson, who recently joined the UTMB Victory Lakes Specialty Center team as senior radiology manager. Cheryl will guide operations at our Advanced Imaging Center and the Breast Imaging Clinic, working closely with teams from the Specialty Care Center and Department of Radiology. She’ll also serve as contact and liaison for our referring physicians, and lead our skilled nurses and clinical staff. Cheryl’s professional experience makes her an ideal fit for this position. For the past two years, she’s served as the senior radiology manager at UTMB’s Galveston campus, overseeing operations of a 24 hr/7 day a week diagnostic radiology section with outpatient services at seven locations. She also has experience in radiography and special procedures, skills she honed during her 18 years at UTMB.
