Does your child or teenager still need a pre-participation physical screening for his/her school or team try-outs? Beat the final buzzer before school starts. Our team of UTMB medical experts is volunteering their time in a special community outreach event to support local families, school districts, and athletic programs with extracurricular pre-participation physicals.

Students should wear t-shirts and shorts, and bring school-specific forms. Walk-ins will be accommodated (as time permits).

May is Better Hearing & Speech Month

The Center for Audiology & Speech Pathology is offering FREE hearing screenings to UTMB employees and students in celebration of Better Hearing & Speech Month! 

When: 8 – 9 a.m. on Monday’s and Friday’s in the month of May 

Where:  UHC Building, 7th floor, Audiology & Speech Department.  

Screenings last 5 -10 minutes. Please note that space is limited, and appointments are on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested, please email Leslie Rolph at lkrolph@utmb.edu to set up an appointment at UHC.

Screenings will also be held at UTMB Specialty Clinics at Victory Lakes from 1:30 – 5 p.m. on Friday, May 20 and May 27. Please email Tootie Tranchina at cotranch@utmb.edu to set up an appointment at Victory Lakes.

Please note: Screenings are intended for individuals without a documented hearing loss or known history of ear disease.

Business manager/analyst now on board

Marjorie Kovacevich

Marjorie M. Kovacevich recently joined the management team in Victory Lakes as business manager for the UTMB Specialty Care Center. She holds a  degree in business administration from Texas A&M University in College Station and an MBA from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. After working for a physician-owned Preferred Provider Organization, Marjorie joined UTMB in 1998. She has worked as a management analyst for the Faculty Group Practice, a senior practice manager and a physician services manager. After Hurricane Ike, Marjorie relocated to League City, where she has served as the senior practice manager of a UTMB clinic while retaining her financial/budgetary responsibilities for the Community Based Clinics (CBC); she also served as the CBC liaison to the physicians for contracting and compensation. In her role at Victory Lakes, Marjorie will be analyzing the performance of business operations, reviewing trends, studying  performance and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Victory Lakes introduces pharmacist

Hala Ghoson was recently announced as the pharmacist for the UTMB Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes; she recently joined the team as the pharmacist-in-charge (PIC) but has been working for UTMB since 2002. She graduated from the University of Houston with a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm D). Ghoson has worked in a decentralized pharmacy setting, rotating  through different areas such as geriatrics, intensive care and general medicine, where she’s said she valued working closely with physicians and other care professionals. In 2005, she began working as part of a successful team at the outpatient oncology clinic, and in 2008, helped set up a pharmacy for the Cancer Center.

UTMB Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes is proud to introduce our new administrator for the Outpatient Surgical Center, Paul Bolling. Paul has over 22 years in the healthcare industry. He earned a  degree in Business Administration-Management in 1988 from the University of Houston Clear Lake. In 2004, he earned his CASC Certification from the Board of Ambulatory Surgery Centers, a credential of distinction earned by those in the field. He has a proven track record in both ambulatory surgery center operations and surgical hospital operations as a past administrator and CEO. His leadership skills, experience and stellar references position him well to lead the surgery center at Victory Lakes. We are excited to have him as a part of our management team, and to have him on board as we  open our Surgery Center on Monday, May 17.

Seelbach joins Victory Lakes team

Jesse.SeelbachVictory Lakes Administration is happy to announce that Jesse Seelbach has joined our team. Jesse began working for UTMB in 1996. He worked for UT-MED Financial Services in various roles from 1996 to 2001, while attending the University of Houston–Clear Lake. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in HealthCare Administration in 2001. Upon graduating, Jesse was hired as a clinic manager for UTMB’s Geriatric Service Line, a Division of Internal Medicine. In 2005, Jesse began working as the operational projects & planning manager for Clinics Administration. Jesse’s duties included working on outpatient clinic expansions and renovations for both on and off-campus outpatient clinics in Galveston County. This May, Jesse is looking forward to completing work on his MBA. He will serve as project manager for the entire facility at Victory Lakes and we are excited to have him as a part of our management team.

Jobs update

To date there have been more than 3000 applicants for jobs at Victory Lakes. UTMB’s Human Resources department is doing a great job providing us with the most skilled candidates for the positions. The first offers have been made to new Patient Service Specialists, and we’re excited to get these great people on board and started on their training. Next, we’ll be working to fill the manager positions, so that those managers in turn can build their teams. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. We’re buidling a fantastic UTMB team at Victory Lakes!

Tindel appointed as specialty clinics director

UTMB’s clinical leadership recently announced the promotion of Kim Tindel to a critical new role. A 1987 graduate of the UTMB School of Nursing, Tindel will now serve as the director for the Specialty Care Clinics at Victory Lakes. She’ll be working closely with physicians and department administrators to bring the clinics at Victory Lakes online.

Tindel’s service at UTMB began as a staff nurse on a medical–surgical inpatient unit. She began working in the clinics in 1990; in 1996 she became a practice coordinator for UTMB Urology, and then a senior practice manager. She has been part of multi-disciplinary management teams at several specialty clinics, most recently Friendswood Pediatric Associates, Adult and Specialty Care Clinic.

In her new role, she’ll be drawing on past experience as a facilitator for the Clinic Management Group, consisting of practice and nurse managers from all primary and specialty care clinics. Kim is also chair of the newly formed Ambulatory Education Council, charged with assessing educational needs and developing strategies to serve ambulatory patients and the employees who assist them.
