The award is based on reviews written by hundreds of thousands of patients nationwide. Appointment of Directors of Care Management

Congratulations to Dr. Catalin Jurnalov and Dr. Marilyn Marx who were appointed Medical Directors for Care Management and Utilization Review.  In this role, they will provide clinical direction and medical leadership to care management and utilization review activities at UTMB. As a peer to physicians and in collaboration with Care Management and Health System Administration, the Medical Directors of Care Management and Utilization Review will facilitate coordination between care providers and Care Management while assisting when necessary to promote consistent, high quality clinical care that is efficient in the use of resources. 

 Drs. Marx and Jurnalov are both skilled physicians with many years of clinical experience along with valuable administrative training and experience that makes them uniquely qualified for this role.  To read more click here.

Does your child or teenager still need a pre-participation physical screening for his/her school or team try-outs? Beat the final buzzer before school starts. Our team of UTMB medical experts is volunteering their time in a special community outreach event to support local families, school districts, and athletic programs with extracurricular pre-participation physicals.

Students should wear t-shirts and shorts, and bring school-specific forms. Walk-ins will be accommodated (as time permits).

UTMB’s Yngve Honored as Health Care Hero

During the 2011 Houston Business Journal Health Care Heroes luncheon awards event, Twelve Health Care Heroes awards were handed out in multiple categories. The Health Care Heroes awards honor those who serve, innovate and save lives. Dr. David A. Yngve from the Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation Clinic at Victory Lakes received an award for the Best Doctor.

Watch a video that spotlights a patient of Dr. Yngve’s and the successful outcome of the surgery he performed.

Dr. Yngve, who came to UTMB in 1992, has been in practice for more than 20 years and says his goal is to treat his patients in a careful, caring and understanding manner.  This includes remaining up-to-date in his field, which has resulted in his publication of more than 25 peer reviewed papers. Dr. Yngve has a special interest in cerebral palsy, scoliosis and pediatric spine problems.

Congratulations is also in order for Dr. Anderson, executive vice president and provost and dean of medicine, who was honored with the Lifetime Achievement award and Nellie Loewen, a nursing program coordinator in UTMB’s Emergency Department, who was one of two finalists for the Nurse award.

Congratulations to David A. Yngve, MD, who has been appointed as inaugural holder of the Tilman and Paige Fertitta Professorship in Orthopaedics.

A faculty member for 20 years, Yngve is a professor and chief of the division of pediatric orthopaedics. He is currently a Professor in the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation and Pediatrics, and the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics and Scoliosis. Dr. Yngve has a special interest incerebral palsy, scoliosis and pediatric spine problems, and is nationally and internationally recognized for his work in an innovative, minimally invasive cerebral palsy surgery called selective percutaneous myofascial lengthening (SPML). An intro to orthopaedic services at Victory Lakes

UTMB’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation is positioned to meet the orthopaedic needs of southeast Texas and the Gulf South region with clinics on both sides of Galveston Bay! In March of 2010, patients and their families can breeze into our new facility at Victory Lakes (I-45, Exit 20) for orthopaedic clinic visits and day surgery procedures.

Patient care solutions include non-operative management, as well as surgical intervention when appropriate, to treat musculoskeletal injuries and diseases ranging from pulled muscles to broken bones to traumatic injuries to worn-out joints. (more…)
