UTMB Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes

The University of Texas Medical Branch will begin a $90 million building expansion project at its Victory Lakes facilities that will include an emergency department and beds to accommodate patients requiring overnight stays.

The project will create 142,000 square feet of clinical space, allowing for the addition of 39 patient beds and inpatient stays of up to 72 hours in order to better serve its patients. In a related project, UTMB will build a central-plant facility to provide utilities to its 62-acre Victory Lakes campus.

During the first phase of construction, one of two access roads to the Specialty Care Center from Walker Street will be closed to traffic. Beginning around March 4, patients, visitors, and staff traveling on Walker Street will need to use the Victory Lakes Park and Ride road to access the patient and employee parking lots.

Due to extremely low patient ridership, and infrequent request for patient transportation, to and from Dickinson Family, Bay Colony, Brittany Bay, and Towne Center. The Towne Center shuttle full service days will be reduced from 5 days to 2. The changes WILL NOT AFFECT the shuttle that goes between Victory Lakes Specialty Care & UTMB at Galveston. The Towne Center shuttle will operate at full schedule on Mondays and Thursdays only. On Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday, the driver at Victory Lakes Specialty Care will respond to pickup request on a ON DEMAND  basis. The new UTMB Cancer Center will formally open at the Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes on July 19. The center will bring advanced cancer care to a rapidly growing region, accessible to patients and their families throughout the Bay Area.
The UTMB Cancer Center is a long-standing member of the American Association of Cancer Institutes (AACI) a prestigious organization of cancer programs in academic medicine. It was also recently certified by the Commission on Cancer as an Approved Cancer Program, a testament to UTMB’s commitment to providing quality care, ongoing improvement and public accountability for the care and service we provide to patients with cancer.
