Melanie has been at UTMB for 20 years. She works in the Office of Educational Development in the School of Medicine.

She is currently serving as one of the two representatives from UTMB on the UT Systems Employee Advisory Council. She is also a member of the Community Advisory Board, and the liaison to the campus for the Support Staff Professionals. She has also served on the Professionalism Board committee. She is very excited about the UTMB Employee Advisory Council. This group will be able to foster bidirectional communications and dialog for all Classified Staff and Administrative & Professional positions. We will promote a positive and collaborative work environment that is committed to assessing, prioritizing and communicating employee needs. We will also be able to serve as a focus group by providing a feedback loop on broad issues and new programs that can impact this group of employees.

Pam Bass*
Senior Administrative Manager supporting Vice Dean for Academic Affairs
School of Medicine

Pam has been at UTMB for almost 15 years in several administrative capacities. She began her career in the Office of Educational Development and then moved on to provide administrative management to the Office of Primary Care Education and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Generalist Physician Initiative.

After completion of the initiative she joined the Office of the Vice President for Research as the Institutional Coordinator for The Office of Intramural Funding which provided support and oversight for two of UTMB’s largest intramural research funding programs, The John Sealy Memorial Endowment Fund for Biomedical Research and the McLaughlin Fellowships. Based on a growing interest in research administration she completed training to become a certified grants specialist and joined the Department of Family Medicine to provide administrative oversight and technical assistance to the predoctoral education and research programs for their federally funded HRSA programs.

In January of 2005 she was asked to join the Dean of Medicine Office where she now serves as a Senior Administrative Manager supporting the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs. She has worked on several institutional level committees such as the IHOP (Institutional Handbook of Operating Procedures), Research Advisory Committee, Council of Deans, SACS Reaffirmation Committee, Wayfinding, and the Online Advisory Group. She is also a member of UTMB’s Support Staff Professionals.
Pam and husband Dale have been married 34 years and have lived in Galveston County for 29 years. They have two children and 4 grandchildren who reside in Galveston and Atlanta. Her husband Dale, who grew up in Galveston, is a graduate of Ball High and her son is a BOI. Her daughter was born in Germany where they lived for 3 years. The family has strong ties to the community and feel this is home.

*Sadly, Pam Bass passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009. Her service, enthusiasm and commitment will be missed by the EAC. Her position on the group will be refilled at the next election.
