Tammy Cupit
I have been a Registered Nurse at UTMB for over a decade. Prior to becoming a nurse, I also was employed as a Hospital Technical Assistant in the Recovery Room at UTMB. Fortunately, I’ve been able to work in several different areas including outpatient clinics as well as inpatient units. I have gained invaluable experience spanning areas which include Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, ENT, Orthopedics, Infectious Disease, Telemedicine and Family Medicine. I have also met people whom I admire and respect as a result, both patients and employees. These individuals and experiences have helped shape the person I am today.
One of my early nursing roles was that of a triage nurse for the Department of Psychiatry. In this role, I was part of a team of nurses who went throughout the entire hospital, triaging patients in need of psychiatric consults. I was able to meet employees and observe operations of many areas at UTMB during this time including TDCJ. I developed a love of the University and its employees as a result. I also gained a firsthand view of operations and often had many ideas about ways to improve patient care and employee satisfaction at UTMB.
I continue to seek opportunities to grow both as a nurse and as a person. Serving on the EAC is one more step toward my goal of giving back to the community, UTMB, and the people who make it work. I look forward to representing the employees of UTMB as well as finding ways to proactively address problems and continue to improve our hospital and clinics.
